Green Lane Run 7th Jan 2024

This green lane run will take place on Sunday 7th January 2024 and visit our traditional driving area of south Cumbria. Since there have been marked changes to the management of many of the more demanding lanes, under the Hierarchy of Trail Routes initiative and the NERC act legislation, around twenty routes are now unavailable and others have become one-way making the development of continuous itineraries difficult. There has been a marked lack of management over the last few years combined with marked storm damage, which has resulted in more challenging driving with more need for localised marshalling. It is therefore possible that some scratching of paintwork / damage may occur, particularly with larger vehicles. Roof-racks can be susceptible to catching on low branches. I need to know vehicle types to create sensible groups that will not be varied except in exceptional circumstances. 

The rendezvous for the day will be M6 Burton (Kendal South) motorway service area, which is just inside Cumbria 3 miles north of junction 35 Carnforth. The time for arrival is 9:00 am to get groups assembled and set off by 9:30am. It is advised to bring recovery equipment, maps, mobile phone, CB, food and drink, warm/waterproof clothes for the day, this is a family fun day.

All groups will be a maximum of four vehicles including the leader. If you have maps and a navigator please volunteer to lead since any shortfall in leaders will result in groups not going. All drivers must be members of RRLRC. I will send itineraries with map references of lanes to group leaders a week or so before the run.
