War Of The Roses Schedule 2019

Jul 11, 2019

Welcome to the War of the Roses 2019 schedule.

Our 32nd Year of this amazing event. We are very pleased to say that Lakeland Land Rover (Coniston) is sponsoring the whole weekend and we thank them for their generous support. We would also like to thank Cartmel Racecourse for the use of their facilities which have proved to be very popular for many years.

This is the premier event of the Red Rose calendar and now firmly established in the national events season. Cartmel racecourse is in a very picturesque Cumbrian setting and very close to the village centre. We are also within easy reach of many areas of interest in the South Lakes. If you are looking for a nice scenic Lake District drive or even a stroll then route sheets are available from Rally Control.

The TYRO will be held on Friday evening, the RTV and CCV are on Sunday with the Bike Trial and Welly Wanging on Saturday evening back on the campsite. These are held on a very different style of land to which we normally use.

The big day on Saturday (THE WAR OF THE ROSES) begins early for marshals and competitors alike. This year the event consists of nine tasks requiring varying skills, knowledge and ingenuity to complete them all successfully, but first they have to carry out a navigation exercise to find the task. On arrival at the task, the competitors have to follow the instructions and complete the challenge in a timely manner. Failure to do so will result in hefty penalties! The tasks themselves vary from hard physical exertion to exasperating mental gymnastics; all require good teamwork and communication skills to complete them successfully. The team with the least number of black eyes at the end of the day could win the ‘Team Spirit’ award.

Vehicle regulations for the main War event are in line with ALRC 2019 rules. The basis of which, is that any vehicle entering must conform to either RTV or CCT vehicle regulations as a minimum standard, with a few specific ASR’s relevant to this event.

Please note that the TYRO, RTV and CCV will be run to ALRC 2019 rules and Red Rose ASRs 2019 and not the ASR regulations relevant to the War of the Roses.

For those of you who have not been before, feel free to come along and observe the efforts of the trial competitors or War teams. Spectators are always welcome but be prepared to walk. Anybody who wants to be a marshal, please contact any Red Rose Official, you will be most welcome.

This year we are running a RC Car trial over the weekend. If you would like to take part please ask at rally control

Annual Club Green Road Run – 6th January 2019

Nov 29, 2018

Missed out on this years green lane runs don’t worry the next one is on 6th January 2019

This green lane run will take place on Sunday 6th January 2019 and visit our traditional driving area of south Cumbria. Since there have been marked changes to the management of many of the more demanding lanes, under the Hierarchy of Trail Routes initiative and the NERC act legislation, around twenty routes are now unavailable and others have become one-way making the development of continuous itineraries difficult. There has been a marked lack of management over the last few years combined with marked storm damage, which has resulted in more challenging driving with more need for localised marshalling. It is therefore possible that some scratching of paintwork may occur, particularly with larger vehicles. Roof-racks can be susceptible to catching on low branches. I need to know vehicle types to create sensible groups that will not be varied except in exceptional circumstances.

The rendezvous for the day will be M6 Burton (Kendal South) motorway service area, which is just inside Cumbria 3 miles north of junction 35 Carnforth. The time for arrival is 9.30am to get groups assembled and set off by 10.00am. For everyone, bring recovery equipment, maps, mobile phone, CB, food and drink, warm/waterproof clothes for the day, this is a family fu day

All groups will be a maximum of four vehicles including the leader. If you have maps and a navigator please volunteer to lead since any shortfall in leaders will result in groups not going. All drivers must be members of RRLRC. I will send itineraries with map references of lanes to group leaders a week or so before the run.

We will continue to keep the event free of charge, but will be asking for voluntary contributions on the day to support LARA, the national body that protects our interests in access to our recreation.
